Graphic Design
The Daedalus project has required me to develop my graphic design skills; from designing posters, banners, video thumbnails and more. I wanted to share some things I've created.
These are concept set posters for a B2B with a close friend of mine. We are (as of writing this) planning to perform a B2B for Halloween. It'll be my second live set and my friends first.
The poster and B2B name (Shadows of Evil) is inspired by our obsession during our teenage years, of the 'Zombies' map 'Shadows of Evil' from Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. We've spent an embarrassing amount of time on that map, so thought it was a fitting name for our B2B. The main visual of the poster is the 'Pack a Punch' machine, in the map. I wanted a gritty, grimy, eery feel to the poster, given it is intended for Halloween.
I managed to find an image of the machine, which I upscaled in quality using AI. I used a variety of textures overlayed on top, paired with a gradient map and posturizing the entire canvas.
I wanted to include pictures of ourselves, but I believe the poster on the left (the first one in the image carousel) looks the cleanest.
These are covers for my YouTube series 'Dae Sessions With Daedalus'. I visited Lisbon earlier this year (2023) and bought some tiles from 'Cortico & Neto's' - there's an interesting history with tiles and Lisbon, some of these tiles are half a century old. I really wanted to use this specific tile for something and figured this would make a great cover. I used an image of a rather archaic looking statue, following suit with the name Daedalus and ancient Greek mythology.
I thought the tile resembled a sun like entity, which is fitting, to the story of Icarus / Daedalus.
Here is the poster for my first live set. I started with a stock image of a statue of the bust of Daedalus. I had to upscale the image using an AI tool as I wanted to print this out in A1. Some of the other assets are shown - these were used to give the textured background: small swirls with an overlaying fingerprint pattern.
I actually wanted to create a 'heatmap' looking poster, inspired by the album artwork of 'Ignorance Is Bliss', by Skepta. But after playing around with the gradient tool in Photoshop, I came to like what you see above, it reminds me of oxidised copper.
The oval glow, behind the bust, was inspired by the other two set posters you see. I really wanted to recreate the 'screen printed' effect on the Skin On Skins poster, but maybe something for a future project.
